I don’t get it. I can understand talking on the phone when it is necessary, but why on earth would you take your eyes off the road to type in buttons on a phone. I just don’t understand the concept.
I asked my wife the other day “Why do you sit there and text people when you can just call them?” the response that I got was just this “Because it’s more enjoyable to text someone”. Ok, well I can understand of someone was bored and they just didn’t feel like talking on the phone, but not while driving.
Studies have shown that there have been many deaths because someone had to see a text from their boyfriend or girlfriend right at that moment and couldn’t wait until they put the car in park somewhere. I’ll admit that I talk on the phone sometimes when I’m driving but you’ll never see me trying to text while driving, especially driving a standard vehicle.
I understand that image and popularity are a big issue in teens and younger adults. I personally don’t care what my image or popularity might be which I guess is a good thing. The point here is that texting while driving can be as dangerous as drinking while driving.
For the record, I have no problem with texting on phones. I text my friends all the time, but I would never do it behind the wheel. Please be safe and don’t text and drive.

gareth i think you are amazingly right i don't get why people text while driving either help me stop texting while driving!!!
Hi wowsite1234,
I will do my best, as it is a good cause but I would much rather people take more responsibility for their own behavior, as I don't agree too much with forced compliance, because it doesn't work, otherwise the law would stop people. The only way I know of doing that is making them aware by getting inside their heads but knowing the mechanism is far different than doing it.
Thanks, Gareth.
Texting while driving is indeed like drinking and driving, putting on makeup while driving, or any kind of multi-tasking. Teenagers are terribly addicted to texting and many have been killed because of it in auto accidents. I am so concerned for my teenage granddaughters who do this. When texting first became available, I thought it was the most ridiculous thing...I still do!
i absolutely despise seeing people risk their lives and the lives of others with this inconsiderate behavior, this is just as bad as drinking while driving. unfortunately people realize the seriousness of this hazard after losing a loved one or becoming permanently disabled because of these actions ! i hope a lot of people read this ! voted up and useful !
informative! the article is amaze!
I agree to it. We must be responsible enough as it is our life and there our family waiting for us to return home.
Thanks
Hello there wowsite1234. In answer to yourTitle, "Why do People Text While Driving?" The answer is fairly simple.
Because they are ignorant, irresponsible, selfish, brain dead, plain stupid, immature, reckless and inconsiderate.
What stops them from doing this insane activity is, having an accident that cripples them for life, killing an innocent person on the road, causing a massive pile up that injures several people, including children, totaling their car by smashing into a tree, being stopped by the police and fined $500.00 for one text.....any number of wonderfully gruesome scenarios like these. Your wife TEXTS WHILE DRIVING?? 1. go nowhere with her if she's driving.. 2. get more auto insurance...3. get a huge life insurance policy on her. Your wife should be ashamed of herself. Period. the end..
Great hub. Texting is causing many accidents. Having a cellphone is a great convenience and important to have for many reasons. Unfortunately, along with it there is texting, internet, and bigger screens.
These are great features to have and to take with you when you travel, but are being used by many while driving. It has become a very serious problem that needs a solution. If they could only find a way to disable texting and internet while a vehicle is moving, it would make the roads much safer for everyone. Thanks for sharing.

Perhaps there should be an immobiliza on cars so if you enter with your phone on it wont start, or better still if you try to use it whilst in the driving seat it blows up,ha, ha, I think that would stop people putting others at risk, with their me, me, me, attitudes.
